Dear Parents, Guardians, and STUDENTS!!
It is very exciting to be starting a new school year at Rainbow Middle. I have been teaching at Rainbow Middle since the 2000 - 2001 school year. Just recently I made a change from teaching 6th grade math to science. I enjoyed teaching math for many years and have been excited to have the opportunity for a change. I have had the pleasure of having 6th grade students all of my years here at RMS !
I am native to Alabama but I also claim to be a Kansan! I grew up in Birmingham, Alabama, but during middle school my family moved to Kansas. I completed middle school and high school in Kansas, then attended Kansas State University. Go WILDCATS!! I love the Midwest and still travel back to visit on occasion.
While attending Kansas State University, I completed my Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education, with a concentration area of general science. Later, I completed my Masters Degree in Collaborative Teaching and Learning Disabilities at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. I have continued additional college coursework in the area of Math. I am a Highly Qualified teacher in Elementary Education. During the summer of 2013, I began AMSTI training for 6th grade science. I look forward to additional training in general science during the upcoming years.
I have lived in Gadsden with my husband, Jason, since 1998. We have two fabulous boys, Grayson and Jonathan. I enjoy time at home with family, gardening, photography, bible study, shopping, travel, and visiting my mom in Birmingham. During the fall I enjoy traveling to Auburn for football games. All year, we watch sports on TV. Last, of course, I love teaching 6th grade!
I am glad to be sharing this year with you. I will be working my hardest to provide a great caring and supportive learning environment. I have very high expectations for my students and can't wait to see them succeed!
