6th Grade History Syllabus

Course Description: This 6th Grade History class will cover American History from the Civil War to the present. The class will be taught according to the Alabama State Department of Education course of study standards.

Expectations: Students will be expected to take ownership in their own learning. Students should come to class every day with the materials they need for class. Be responsible, be organized, and follow classroom rules.

Classroom Rules:

Do not talk while I am talking

No food or drinks in class

No Cell Phones (unless specifically instructed to bring a device)

Do not write on or erase anything from my board

Do not touch anything on my desk

Interactive Notebook: Students will have an interactive notebook for my class to help them stay organized. These notebooks will have three or more sections where students will keep things such as study material and graded work. These will be checked for a grade periodically.

Grading Policy:Students will receive points throughout the course that fall under one of the following categories: Test, Projects, Classwork/Homework. Tests will be 100 points, sometimes more. Projects will range from 50-200 points, Classwork/Homework will be from 0-50 points. Any student(s) caught cheating on tests will receive a “0” and will not be allowed to make up the test. Graded work will be kept in the students’ Interactive Notebook, at least until the end of the grading period. If a student makes a “D” or lower on a test, I will send home the test with the student to be signed and brought back.

Make-up Policy: Students will need an excuse in order to make up work that they have missed due to being absent. The student is responsible to get their make-up work from me. Make-up work should be completed within 3 days of the students’ return to school. This can be adjusted depending on the situation. If the student has access to the internet, the material from class will usually be in Google Classroom so the student can stay on track and not fall too far behind if they have to miss.

Materials and Supplies Needed: Paper and writing materials such as pen, pencil, colored pencils. Students will need a binder or folder. Chromebooks/Textbooks will be provided.
